Our raw vegan baby Elanie has turned 1 year old! During this year, we’ve been applying the attachment parenting principles, such as breastfeeding on demand, co-sleeping and baby carrying.

In the modern world attachment parenting is seen is something negative. “Your child will become too dependent on you!” “He or she will be spoilt and be too demanding!” These are just some of the things that you will hear people say.

So in this video we talk about our attachment parenting and cover the following areas:

• Breastfeeding: how long should you do it for?
• Co-sleeping: does it spoil your child and ruin your relationship?
• Baby carrying: does it get too hard to carry your child around?
• Alternative parenting in the conventional world: a crazy idea or the way forward for humanity?

What are your thoughts and experiences about aware parenting? Do you think it can spoil your child? Post your comments below!

I practised a lot of attachment parenting basics before I knew there was such a thing. I just did what felt right for our daughter. I co-slept for about 4-5 months then she was in the bedroom until well after the age of 12 months. We only used our pram if we had a big shopping day but otherwise she was carried as she seemed to prefer it. I too had MANY people asking when I was planning to wean her right from the beginning!!!! When told I would go for well over two years and see how we both were going the majority of people were shocked I planned to go that long. In the end she weaned herself and 13 months. I was so disappointed as I loved breast feeding and tried to get her to feed again but she wouldn't have a bar of it. When she was about 2 1/2 I remember thinking that I would be very comfortable feeding her if she would've let me. My daughter is now 6 1/2 and is very healthy, active, very social with both kids and adults, excelling in school in Year 1 and is already learning some things at a Year 2 level and is kind and understanding. Keep up the good work and congrats on not following the "norm". I think society could do with more people coming it to this world with these qualities.

loving your videos as always guys. i make all the same parenting choices, although i do use a buggy sometimes… to go for those long walks (i have two dogs and live in the city*) and im only about 50-70% raw. Sometimes me my partner my toddler and the two dogs all go to the park and everyone runs around together, me and my partner do a body weight workouts, jogging burpies etc etc and  the dogs chase a ball while our toddler explores! its a great thing to do and we can be very creative with how we keep everyone entertained…. my toddler even copies our exercises 🙂 i find it sad you don't see more families doing that sort of thing all together! yes and i still breast feed and my daughter is 20m old.and bed share… its nice to hear someone mention the pressure to stop….. i have defiantly felt it but im stubborn and will keep going..cos i just feel intuitively that this is the best way for me to do things…. it fits with how i feel in my heart and my soul and no matter what everyone says that cant be wrong? . Finally yes! – i think because of attachment parenting my toddler is so kind…. some other kids grab things off each-other all the time, as we don't grab things from my daughter and don't say no to her "we say: not for Alice for mummy etc*"…. she doesn't behave in a pushy forceful manner either (mostly*) …. she shows more respect to others id say, and i love that! connection and love that's what im talking about 🙂  Keep up the good work!….

I've heard that certain types of baby carriers can damage a baby's hips because of the pressure on them. What kind do you use?

I am semi-AP. I love breastfeeding but I do not have a problem with formula. I love to wear babies when possible but occasionally use a stroller. I don't spank or yell and try to speak calm and limit saying "no". If I must say "no" I like to have a reason rather than "Because I said so." I don't believe in bed sharing but I also don't like the trend of leaving kids in strollers and car seats all the time.

such a pretty shirt you are wearing!

    Wonderful, fresh video
    Also very inspiring
I agree with a lot of aspects
    Your not offensive or rude
I think as parents we should always respect one another
    Parenting is a hard job!
It is a shame how attachment parenting is frowned apon etc xxx
